Sweet Potato Pecan Pie
Recipe: Sweet Potato Pecan Pie

Ingredients for Sweet Potato Pie

  • 1 9-inch pie crust
  • 2 cups fresh, mashed sweet potato (2 large sweet potatoes)
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon good quality vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon or kahlua (optional)

Ingredients Pecan Pie Filling

  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter,melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon good quality vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon or kahlua (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 350˚.
  2. Place the pie crust into a pie pan and crimp the edges of the pie with your thumb and forefinger.
  3. Combine the sweet potatoes, eggs, sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and bourbon or kahlua, if using, in a large bowl. Pour into pie crust.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the pecans on top of the sweet potato filling.
  5. Combine the sugar, maple syrup, eggs, melted butter, vanilla and bourbon, if using, and pour it on top of the pecans.
  6. Bake in a preheated 350˚ oven until the pastry is golden brown and the pecan layer is set, about 40-50 minutes. Delicious warm, room-temperature or chilled.

Active Time: 20 minutes

Bake Time (for sweet potatoes and pie): Apx. 1 1/2 hours

Number of servings (yield): 8 slices
