I’m liking our new tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving on Sunday; now I can relax and avoid this week’s grocery store crush. It may have been an early bird, but it was a pretty bird, decked out in lemons with flavors of sage. (I am grateful to Sparrow Meats in Kerrytown.)
It’s family treason to deviate from traditional recipes but I tweaked them, not one willing to leave well-enough alone, and updated the recipes from my last post. I added Grand Marnier to the Cranberry-Orange Relish (I am grateful to Rod Marsh for that tip), and tossed sautéed apples into the Wild-Rice, Sausage and Fennel Stuffing (I am grateful to Lucy Carnaghi for that suggestion).
I also substituted chard for the spinach in the stuffed mushrooms and added currants to the mix. The Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes I left, intact, as well the Sweet Potato-Pecan Pie.
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, gratitude the greatest gift I can wish for you– sniffing the smells, smelling the love!
