Recipe: Ingredients for Simple Ginger Syrup

  • 4 ounces ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons whole black peppercorns, optional*

*The peppercorns lend a fiery bite on the downtake; omit if desired.

  1. Combine the ginger, sugar, water, and peppercorns in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Continue simmering for 30 to 40 minutes or until the syrup tastes intensely gingery.
  3. Remove from heat and cool completely. Strain the syrup through a fine sieve, transfer to a bottle, and refrigerate.
